At our BIWA Social Welfare meeting earlier today, Swimdo joined us as a guest speaker, sharing powerful insights and real data about drowning in Indonesia. The presentation highlighted that children aged 5–14 are most at risk, with males representing the majority of victims. In Bali (2021–2024), cases include both locals and foreigners, reinforcing the widespread nature of the issue.
Swimdo.org is a non-profit organisation based in Bali that focuses on preventing drowning through education and community programs. Its mission is to protect and enrich children’s lives by providing free swimming and water safety training, especially in at-risk communities across Indonesia. Through grassroots, community-led initiatives, Swimdo has already taught thousands of children essential survival swimming skills and CPR, helping reduce drowning risks significantly.
The session also emphasised prevention strategies aligned with WHO guidance, including teaching swimming, raising public awareness, and training communities in rescue and resuscitation. Swimdo’s work is truly impactful in saving lives through education and prevention.
