Today, members of Bali International Women's Association (BIWA), Julie, Ibu Yus, Elysabeth, Rezi, Mary Swanson and her daughter, Yvonne, Henny and Mary Ann had the privilege of visiting Yayasan Pendidikan "Dria - Raba" to spend time with the children, teachers, and staff while learning more about the foundation’s inspiring work.
The visit was especially meaningful, as BIWA has a long history of supporting the school dating back to 1982, reflecting decades of friendship, compassion, and commitment to helping visually impaired children in Bali achieve brighter futures.
Yayasan Pendidikan "Dria - Raba" is a remarkable foundation dedicated to supporting visually impaired children and giving them opportunities for a brighter and more independent future. Established in the early 1950s by Ibu Dayu’s mother, the school was founded with a heartfelt mission: to ensure that blind children would not have to rely on begging and instead could live with dignity, education, and hope.
Today, the foundation supports 25 children who live on-site, where they receive daily care, education, and guidance. Most of the children are highly independent, making it easier for the teachers and caregivers to support them in their everyday activities. In addition, another 45 children live with their families and attend the school during regular school hours.
The students are encouraged to develop their talents and practical skills through various programs. They participate in music and singing classes, learning to play different musical instruments and express themselves creatively. Some students are also trained in massage therapy as a vocational skill, helping prepare them for future employment opportunities. Currently, the students range in age from 10 to 19 years old, each working toward a more confident and self-sufficient future.
Yayasan Pendidikan "Dria - Raba" Choir beautifully performed at BIWA’s Christmas Party at The Haven on two memorable occasions, and once again at The Cellardoor. Their heartfelt songs brought tears of joy, inspiration, and festive spirit to everyone present.
